An overview of the IOV’s history
The IOV was established in 1985 by its founder – Geoff Belmont-Rixon – who recognised the need to provide an association of like-minded professionals within the, then, developing videography market. The IOV and its list of membership benefits soon expanded, and the organisation adopted its present incorporated form and constitution in June 1991.
In 1996 the administrative office moved from Accrington in the north west of England, to the offices of IOV Focus Ltd in Loughton, Essex. IOV Focus provided the main administrative backbone for the IOV – including its membership and support office – and also publishes the IOVs magazine, Focus; manages the IOVs Annual Convention & Trade Exhibition; as well as maintaining this website.
In October 2011, IOV Focus Ltd passed into the ownership of the Institute of Videography Ltd.
