Come and join us at Sony Digital Motion Picture Center for an IoV training day. Open to all members with any level of experience. Join us to get the latest information on audio craft skills and equipment during this training day . Please register for the event to attend the training day.
This is, all in all, a training session not to be missed for anyone wanting to take the audio side of their profession to a higher level.
This training day is open to members and non members , with members receiving priority on registrations. There is £20 (yes that’s all!)) fee for members and £75 fee for non members.
Spaces are limited to 24 spaces.
( we appreciate the vent is in the south of the UK and we will as an Exec endeavour to take the event to other parts of the UK)
The day running from an 11am start through to approx 17:30 aims to inform and to promote participation both through discussion and via practical exercises. The overall aim of the day is improve awareness and practical skills in acquiring quality audio in your productions. This is an area of production which is often a weakness or is taken for granted as part of the filming process.
We will have a panel of four presenters (possibly five) taking the lead on particular areas of this broad-ranging subject, and also responding to questions and comments from the audience.

11:00 Matt (Sony) Welcome and Health & Safety issues, etc.
Tony – Intro and history of sound in the movies.
2. 11:20 Chris – Mics and the nature of sound. Microphone Polar Patterns and what they mean. Particular issues with radio mics and lapel mics, including placing them effectively and unobtrusively
12:15 Cheema – Common problems in recording sound on location and at live events (and how to solve them)
13:00 – 13:40 Lunch. Kit available to inspect.
13:45 Chris/Cheema What’s in the Sound Guy’s Kitbag?
TBC : presentation from a Sony rep featuring their microphones.
14:30 Ian – Tips to coax the best performance from your talent.
15:00 Coffee Break
15:20 Practical exercises followed by discussion of key learning points
16:20 Tony/Cheema What can and can’t be fixed in post.
16:45 Group discussion
17:15 Summary of the day (Ian, Tony)
